Portable

New Horizon is portable and available across Windows and Unix/Linux operating environments and can support a wide range of database systems including SQL Server, Oracle and mySQL, as well as file-based systems like ISAM.

Scalable Architecture

New Horizon follows modern practice in systems design with a 3-tier architecture that makes a clear separation between the user interface, business services and the underlying database. Applications can economically support a handful of users on a single processor Windows machine or may be scaled to support 500 or more concurrent users on high-end servers under Enterprise RedHat.

Modern Web Services APIs and XML message sets are fully supported too, making New Horizon the perfect platform for moving your back office applications to a modern Service Oriented Architecture that works across the enterprise and across the Internet.

Secure

New Horizon includes a robust, role-based security model that allows the developer to specify which users have access to an application's functions and data. User authentication may be handled inside the platform or may be delegated to standard network services like LDAP.

In addition, the New Horizon platform has built-in support for licence management, giving developers the ability to control deployment and protect their investment in intellectual property.

Accounts

The New Horizon Business Accounting (NHBA) option is a fully featured modular accounting system built on the New Horizon platform. NHBA allows application developers to create industry specific applications very rapidly and includes components for:

• Nominal Ledger (General Ledger)
• Sales Ledger (A/C Receivable)
• Purchase Ledger (A/C Payable)
• Cashbook
• Stock Control

In addition, NHBA includes interfaces for BACS payments and EDI message sets.

All accounts are multi-currency with original currency amounts held against all transactions to ensure 100% reconciliation with bank transactions. The system supports an unlimited number of accounts and flexible account numbering options.

Flexible accounting period options are supported with multi-period bookings to allow work to continue while the prior period is reconciled and closed.

Accounting ledgers and rules for VAT and EU regulatory reporting are standard and there is full support for import, export and cross-border treatments.

Sophisticated sales and purchase order processing coupled with flexible price books and discount structures allow a wide range of business practices to be modeled with minimum programming required.

Inventory management and costing is built into NHBA too, with standard, last, average and FIFO costings supporting comprehensive ABC analysis. Stock and non-stock items are handled seamlessly with automatic generation of back-to-back orders if required.

Reporting

New Horizon includes a powerful graphic reporting engine allowing reports to be developed and customized quickly for all types of printers, from multi-part dot matrix types to modern laser, ink-jet and thermal devices.
