In search of increased shop floor efficiencies at Packetis
The first packaging operation in France specializing in the design and manufacturing of packaging for health care products, Packetis operates three converting plants in Chazelles and Valréas, and two printing plants in Isle d’Espagnac and Soyaux. Packetis employs 500 people, and produces folding cartons, blister packs and labels.
Unsatisfied with inaccurate, manual shop-floor reporting
methods, Packetis knew that being able to monitor their shop floor
activity on a timelier basis would help them improve their
efficiency. That's when Packetis began their search for a shop
floor data collection system designed specifically for the
packaging manufacturing industry that would complement their
existing business and scheduling software solutions.
Packetis has realized the following benefits with Solarsoft's
Production Manager shop floor data collection software system for
packaging manufacturing:
- Increase of 3% in monthly production
- Improved customer service with immediate access to the latest
production line-up list (work-to-list)
- Access to real-time job status to all management and personnel,
either from their workstation or via any Internet-enabled
computer
- Improved machine utilization
- More efficient scheduling
The software was successfully implemented at Packetis in January
of 2008. Since then, Packetis no longer needs to manually collect
and key in production data, saving the company a half of a man-year
of workload. The necessary information now flows automatically from
the machine sensors to the shop floor data collection software.
