for virtually all of Center Manufacturing's business now accounts
for only a small fraction, supplanted by the motorcycle, heavy
truck, construction and agricultural equipment industries.
With Center Manufacturing's old system there was a profound lack
of usable information. They had no standard costing, no visibility
or control over costs and profitability. There was no MRP, so the
company either ran out of material or over-ordered to compensate.
There was no bar-coding and they used third-party EDI. Upgrades
were really expensive, as was maintenance. The whole solution was
disjointed.
